Teeth Whitening for a Brighter Smile

Are you tired of discolored, stained, and yellowed teeth?

Look no further than Dr. Kaplan’s Cincinatti office for comprehensive and comfortable teeth whitening treatment. Teeth can become discolored over time from a variety of factors. These factors may be prevented if habits are changed.

Common Causes of Tooth Discoloration

Smoking and Tobacco Products
Tar and nicotine found in tobacco products can create stains that are difficult to clean. Tar naturally darkens enamel, and nicotine causes teeth to become yellow. Years of smoking or tobacco use can cause discoloration.

Foods and Drinks
Certain foods and drinks such as coffee, tea, and sodas, stain teeth. These foods and drinks contain color pigments called chromogens which attach to your enamel. Drinking less staining drinks or using a straw can help protect your enamel from chromogens.

Medication
Certain antihistamines, antipsychotics, and high blood pressure medications may darken teeth. Treatments like chemotherapy and radiation also may discolor teeth.

Age
As you age, the outer layer of your tooth enamel becomes thinner. When enamel wears away, the yellow dentin layer underneath may show through after years of brushing and wear.

Trauma
Hits and injuries made to the mouth may discolor teeth. After an injury, a tooth may lay down more dentin, the darker layer under the enamel. Chipped or cracked teeth may also appear discolored.

Teeth Whitening Treatments

Dr. Kaplan offers in-office and take-home teeth whitening treatments for your convenience. A quick and effective option for patients is in-office teeth whitening. For this procedure, Dr. Kaplan will apply a whitening gel to your teeth. A special curing light activates the gel. The process takes one hour and is a great option for special occasions.

Take-home whitening treatment allows you to whiten teeth from the comfort of your own home. For this treatment, Dr. Kaplan will provide you with bleaching gel for a special bleaching tray mold that is custom-fit to your teeth. This whitening process takes several weeks and results last from months to years.
